Trendspotting: Polka Dots

Picture: AFP

So, this is the thing: I was a pre-teen in the late 80s, early 90s and you know what that that means: polka dots mean Kwame! LOL And Hip Hop legend, Biggie put that to bed with his line, "your life is played out like Kwame and those effin' polkadots." WOW. Smh

SOOOO.....to see that it's the "next big thing in fashion" again has me on the fence. The Marc Jacobs photo on the left, it NOT haute, imho. Who wants to look like a dalmatian? Not I. But these fashionistas below have pulled it off. I personally own a polkadot dress in navy and white that I purchased a year ago but these  are TINY dots. I just don't see me doing the big polka dot "Kwame" thing but I do think a few polka dot accessories will find their way into my wardrobe and I give props to those who have pulled it off.

Hypno Ears

One of the amazing designers featured in my book "ENVISION: The Young Accessory Designer's Guide to Collection Development" (now available at Amazon.com) is Olivia Thompson, owner/designer of Hypno Ears. She recently gifted me with a custom pair! I asked for mine to be the color of the sun, since I am a total sun worshipper and in just a few short days, mine were delivered.
How cute is the packaging? And as you can see, I am staring intensely into my laptop wearing mine and  NOTHING else! Not even lipgloss or nail polish. :) Freshly showered after a great yoga session at home (see the mat on the floor), before I know what clothes will adorn me, I first choose my accessories--as any true accessory lover would.

But don't sit there coveting MINE. Get your own at Hypnoears.com. They are also now available at ID retail store in Annapolis Mall.

Be like Olivia and learn how to design a collection to present to stores. Read my book ENVISION: The Young Accessory Designer's Guide to Collection Development. Get the softcover or download it instantly.
